Does anyone have any info on them. The place i work has 3 of them and i've been watching them and they are pretty interesting, i did a bit and it said they get 36" in the wild but if your lucky they'll get 1/3 that size in the tank.

My bad wrong section :/

Hi fin banded sharks are tottally unsuitable for tropical tanks. Firstly they come from temperate waters which means they are more suited to life in outside ponds (provided the pond is stopped from freezing over winter). Secondly their size and activity makes them unsuitable for life in tanks, to keep just one a tank of at least 12 feet long would be required. Thirdly like other large Cyprinids they have a high oxygen requirement which is more difficult to meet in the warmer waters of a tropical tank.

Myxocyprinus asiaticus asiaticus or Chinese High Fin Banded Shark is a non tropical bottom dwelling species. Specimens around 40" have been found in the wild but it is unlikely that a fish will reach that size in captivity, they also seem to have a shortened live in captivity. They are Omnivores, feeding on invertabrates of the bottom and also rasping algae from rocks and logs. They are a peaceful fish that does best in groups, however, they cannot survive pond conditions in cooler climates like the UK. As CFC has said a huge tank is needed to keep the fish.
