Hello,

I'm a newbie to the aquarium world so I thought I'd say hello and hopefully learn a few things while I'm here. I'm from Perth, Western Australia and I currently have a 330 litre or I think 85 odd gallon tropical tank with lake malawi cichlids :). I got thrown into the deep end of the hobby as the tank was originally my grandfather in laws but he unfortunately passed away April last year. Considering I knew nothing about aquariums I've learnt alot while keeping it going for my grandmother in law. We have lost a few fish along the way due to incorrect filter cleaning and a few other things which led to an ammonium spike :(.

My grandmother in law knew nothing about tanks do I thought I'd try and keep it going for her so she could have that memory. So to cut a long story short after looking after the tank for over 12 months it was so very kindly given to me to keep going. I still don't know the scientific names of the fish I have other than what the LFS calls them. What I have are:
Electric yellows
2x giraffe haps
3x blue dolphins
3x clown loaches
5x silver sharks
3x peacocks
1x marble peacock
2x algae eaters
plus one fish I'm not sure of. I currently run an eheim 2217 cannister filter ( just replaced a 2215 filter) and a eheim internal filter which will soon be replaced with an eheim 2012 internal filter.

After the steep learning curve and stress of losing some fish 12 months or so ago I've not lost any since and I know am loving this hobby. So I wont ramble anymore and instead I'll enjoy the forums :) please excuse the crappy quality photo.

Thats was good of you to keep the tank running for your grandmother to keep your grandfather's memory going.

Yes, a steep learning curve indeed and hopefully you enjoyed learning more about the hobby.

A nice looking tank and crystal clear water. Nice one!

Am not an expert when it comes to stocking tanks, someone will come along and advise if your stocking is suitable for your tank.

If you ever get unsure or want to know more about anything, just post a question and we'll be more than happy to answer your questions if we can.
