Hi i got told when i got this it was a shark catfish and i beliave they are brakish but i have been looking on the net tonight and seen a pang it looks a bit like it but i dont think its one of these as its not got a flatish face lol and then i saw a channel cat now it looks identical to this and mine is about 10" i can't get a accurate size as its always on the move lol i just want to know if it is a channel cat as ive said before i like to know what ive got lol

thankyou :good:

mm my first thought was Hexanematichthys seemanni but now you come to mention it yours does look very similar to Ictalurus punctatus...not being rude mate, have you got any clearer pics? try using the flash :good:

Not that i'm an expert at id'ing but it doesn't look like the Hexanematichthys seemanni i'll soon be getting one and your one's dorsal fin appears smaller than on the Shark catfish it's dorsal fin is very tall here's a pic i managed to get of my OH one...Sorry for quality taken on my phone and the bugger won't stay still !

thanks guys i will get another pic up but you have said exactly what i have about the dorsal and the spots and the barbels and the backend slopes down slightly as does the channel cat, it was marked up as a arius seemani @ £12 ages ago and it looked very skinny and unwell so i bought it and bloody hell has it grown nicely nice and fat (how it should be not literally fat)

thank for you help i will get a couple more pics up today

The head and face looks quite different to a Channel Cat,

No idea what it is though?

channel cats also have spots grayish colour and a little slope on its back end going to the tail the same as mine does all the pics ive seen are the same as mine

Looks to be an Ictalurus punctatus to me. Can you get a face on shot so i can see his mouth/whiskers? Then I can give you a 100% positive ID.
