hi all, i currently have a 24" x 12" x 12" tank and i want to expand and go to a 36" x 15" x 12", but the only thing is that i think that they table that i have at home isnt very suitable, it held it when i used the tank but my parents said that its unsafe and if it falls then my house will be wrecked!!! any advice from people who dont use the "proper" stands?

also if i do decide to take some of the advice then how would i go about changing the tanks about?

thanks in advance

you can buy a suitable table or stand from charity shops, ebay, etc.
other than that make your own, or buy brand new from lfs. :D

thanks for your reply mate but the thing is i have a table that holds my tank, but im not sure if it can hold it long term if you get wat i mean, the table is made from wood, the frape that holds it is made from metal and it has wheels. when i changed the tank to trial it my father commanded that i changed it back because it might fall. but i put a piece of really chunky wood to hold the middle bit up and i also put some wood near the wheels just in case they gave way, if it did decide to fall would it do it straightaway??? i had it for about one day then i changed it.

another thing is the tank was given to me and i want a bigegr one and the bits where the glass is joined are not looking white and kinda peeling is it safe or shoulf i buy a new one?

If you are at all worried about the stability of the table then get a stonger one.
I have one of my tanks on a coffee table that is made of pine and is suitable for a larger one( in the future:) ) my other lage tank is on a manufactured stand that came with the tank. I also have my 13 gal on top of a chest of drawers.

If the table is going to go it might go straight away or it might take a while, the descision is yours. Personally I would get a new one :D

:hi: to the forum.

I can't quite help you out other than to tell you where to look for a better stand.

Your parents are right, though. Water damage caused by tank leaks and breaks are very costly (not to mention that the fish will die and people might get hurt). It's always best to buy a suitable stand and to add some sort of foam under the tank to support the weight evenly so it doesn't crack.

I can't help you with the white corner thing.

So you're planning to get a bigger tank, is that it? What do you mean by "changing"? Meaning moving the fish or replacing a tank (I'd say keep both :D).

Your current tank: 15 gallons.
The tank you want: 28 gallons.

Equation (length x width x height)(in inches)/ 231.

I dunno iof this helps, but someone told me that any tank that has been sitting empty, should be re siliconed before filling. When they sit empty the sillicone expands and contracts as the temp. changes around it. Therefore the seal can become unsealed.
