Hi, just a quick intro before I stick my question on!

I have been keeping goldfish for the last 2.5 years since my wife decided to let our daughter "win" one at our local fair. We felt guilty after having "bubble" -a very fine looking gold comet- in a bowl for a week, so there began my investment of my first aquarium albeit a small one- elite 35 litre.

After adding a few friends over time- now have 4 Goldfish and a butterfly plec (chinese hill stream loach says google)- I realised that the elite was just too small and have now invested in a 180 litre Juwel Vision tank. I wanted to set it up correctly and decided to google some pages and discovered this wealth of information that is fishforums. Unfortunately I also noticed an article which states my new tank is already too small!!! (The one that says 20 US Gallons for one goldfish & 10 Gallons each fish thereafter).

Another failing of mine was to have never tested my water, did that today on the old tank and was horrified with the results- Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0 and Nitrate off the scale  although these are off strips which I have just paid a fortune for to read tonight that are worthless! Dad's pond beckoning!!!

Anyway, that was a long quick intro, now off to post my poser!

Thanks for reading.

Was going to ask if I could just place my old filter system in my new tank and add fish immediately-
Just searched and found the answer to my question here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=2467656

Welcome!
Also, dont worry, we all start somewhere... atleast you invested in a bigger tank than the first and second you had!
:good:

I would be interested to hear anyone else's views on this subject before I take the plunge and try it, had tank running since saturday night.

Thanks

you can transfer the filter to your new tank as that filter already has the bacteria in it.
if you have another filter for the new tank you can run them both for about a month then the new filter will be fine on it`s own after that.
