Hi all,

I have had my marine tank for over a year now, i've had great fun along the way and enjoyed it!

However, along the fun route I have spent silly amount of money on fish and lost so many it's got slightly silly!

My main problems have been the regal tangs (white spot) now I know they are hard to keep but they have never lasted longer than 3 weeks!

ANYWAY.....

Everyday I wake up now I go to my tank and worry that I may have lost another fish! At the moment I only have 2 damzels (that I purchased yesterday as a cheap option) and a yellow tang that i've had for about 2 weeks now!

I do regular water changes, the water stats are fine, I run a skimmer (altho i didn't have full water flowing through) so I've twisted that now and let it done its full job (my noise)

I just don't understand where im going wrong all the time, my annenome, feather dusters, star fish and shrimps have been brilliant its just the fish!!

Should I get an external filter? I see people talk about a UV steriliser, should I get one of them?

Last but not least, my water drops about an inch every 4 days so I have to keep topping up there aswell!

Any help / advise would be great as im bored of loosing my lovely tangs and clowns all the time :(

Cheers peeps :)

i'm not the best person to give advice, but i can ask some questions that the epxerts will ask you so the info's there for when they look at the topic!!

give us the full spec of the tank, size, dimensions, lighting, make and models of equipment etc etc

what filtration method you use

your water stats for anything you test for

Hi

I will give all the stats when I get home but all my water stats are fine (off the top of me head)

I currently have a new light unit that i've fitted (purchased off ebay) and the x4 t5 lights give off 14k each bulb!

The tanks is 4ft in length

your topping off with fresh water right? is it always ich that is killing your fish?(white spots)?
Ter

Yep, im using fresh RO water

Seems to mostly be whitespot to be honest although on some fish you can't always tell.

Well, a UV sterilizer cant hurt... And it might just kill any pathogens that are doing harm to your fish. I know I've taken good care of my fish, but I run a UV sterilizer and have never seen signs of disease/illness

Hi Ski,

Im having probs all the time with my fish, something really isn't right yet my water is ok!

I purchased 2 damsels last weekend and they have both died already.. Im guessing they died from white spot although not sure! Im wondering if it has anything to do with the white spot treatment and garlic i put in to help the regal (that also died)

What type of UV Streliser should I get? Are they expensive or am I wasting my money?

Also should I get an external filter or is that a waste of money?

Yes get a uv.. it works.. google it up.. buy one let it run for about a month.. and dont add any fish, this should kill of any virus or bacteria that would harm your fish... also maybe.. do you have 1 fish that has lived throughout all this death? lol maybe its host 2 ebola lol
Ter

lol ok

Is there any particuar size I need? I will have a look on ebay or get 1 tomorrow from my LFS!

Nope the only things to survive through EVERYTHING are my cleaner shrimp and star fish!

I still have a yellow tang at the moment but he doesn't look 100%

Not so sure on full dimensions off hand but its a 4 foot tank in length but a foot in width and a foot and a 1/2 in height!

Running pumps / skimmer and t5 (x4) white lights if that helps?

you want something around this then link and a pump like this... you can probably find cheaper.. but it gives u an idea..
but before you buy that.... could u give us all your tank readings? what tests do you have?
Ter

Agreed, a 9watt model and a small pump like a minijet. Or if you have an external pump running you can run it in-line off that depending on the flowrate. Dont get a pond model, those are not QUITE as effective as the marine ones

Cheers guys

Ive got 3 pumps like that so thats ok

I checked the tank lastnight and the PH is too high!

Today I will get a PH Reducer, do a water change tomorrow and hopefully get a n external filter and a UV Stereliser!
