Hey, i already posted a similar topic like this in the C. and S. American cichlids page. I am very intrigued by Flowerhorns and really want to keep them especially after seeing my first full grown female yesterday. She was beautiful and from what i hear the males are more candy for the eyes. It was classic, the pet store didn't even really realize what they had recieved. I guess they had gotten it in as a trade in. Crazy huh? Definately a flowerhorn though! Anywho, I don't like to buy fish if i don't have any information or knowledge on them, so if anyone could fill me in that would be exceptional! Any information at all would be great! Thankz!

Flowerhorns are hybreds with a very bad temper. :/

The flowerhorn gets the majority of its looks from the Trimac, Cichlasoma trimaculatum. Why not keep one of these rather than buy a frankenstine fish and help support the vile flowerhorn business? For every flowerhorn that makes it to the shops hundreds have been made which are so hidiously deformed that they can never be sold so the breeders simply tip them into the local water systems. This in turn has caused serious ecological problems as they out compete and kill off the the native fish.

not to offend any one who has these but,

OH MY GOD!! they have got to be the most ugliest fish on this whole planet!
how can u condone how they are 'made' and what they are 'made' into???

its disgustin...

a god damn big hairy spider is cuter than one of them!!!

 yeeeeeeshhhhhh

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR INPUT!! It was most informative and helped me learn quite a bit more about them. I am completely against most hybrid cichlids/fish. I can't stand Red Parrots, just look like stupid little ballons that need to be popped, IMO, but now that i know how Flowerhorns are bred and the like they have lost most of their appeal to me. I still think they are a very beautiful fish, but they are just not for me. Thankz again! On a side note, my 2 pairs of Kribs just had their VERY FIRST SPAWN!! YAY!! They didn't know what they were doing of course and eventually ate all the eggs, but they have one more spawn in their memory box now. Perhaps a few more spawns and they will start to get the hang of things. They are gonna be some very tight fry as well. I have a high purple belly phase male(i think he is wild caught, which makes me really sad...i still don't understand why they are still caught wild when they are so easy to breed)that is breeding with an albino female. And then the other pair are both albinos. I'm really excited about seeing what the purple belly male and albino female produce. Be kinda kewl if i could get a different color morph. Am i being just as bad as the people who breed flowerhorns? I'm not mixing species but i am mixing color morphs...is that an alright thing to do? Anyway, i'll keep you all posted on what happens over the next few months.
