im new to the fish scene and was wondering if there was any good place that sells tanks in the inland empire <so cali> . i went to darlys pet shop today and they had only 2-3 tanks =( gonna go to walmart later today and see if they have anything good. looks for 10-20gallon tanks.

any help woul be appreciated.

I recently bought my 20 gal at petco and a 10 gal at walmart. I think walmart regularly carries 20 gals. Their filters now have a place for the good bacteria to grow (to remove the fish's waste), which is a major improvement for them. Overall, my walmart tank is pretty high quality. The heater is the same one that came in my petco tank kit, where the heater is totally submersable and has numbers on it. It has the same hood, but smaller as well.

thnx guys. also do i have to buy a stand for the tank? can i just put in on counter top? becuase that seems fine w/ me? how much do u think it wieghs?

I think that as long as you can stand on the counter and it remains stable, the tank will be fine (your average person ways about as much as a 20 gallon I believe). The only other problem, besides having a good place to put the tank that won't suddenly collapse :p, is that a lot of tanks come with a guarantee etc which only applies if it's kept on a purpose-biult stand. It's unlikely that you'll need that though as the tank is unlikely to crack within the first year (which is typicaly how long the warantee lasts).

A good rule of thumb for a tank's weight is about 8-10 lbs per gallon of water (this includes the tank, water and substrate).
