btw your betta is unbelievable in your profile pic!! is he yours? I love bettas. they look great and will even eat food out of your hand. I might even get an 8l tank for my computer desk with just a betta in, to look at while I work. Lol, I'm gonna be surrounded by tanks getting progressively smaller around my living room at this rate. I shouldn't have signed up for this forum

lol! That's how it happens. I have a betta tank on my kitchen counter even. The fish in my profile is "Balue" as my son named him.

He's stunning! One of the nicest I've ever seen.

I've had a few bettas. my favorite one was all red with bright white tips to his fins. he came to an unfortunate end I'm affraid. I thought I would order a bunch of females for him online, from an importer local to me. turned out half of them were males, which looked like females. and as he had a big tail, he was the main target. I found him on the side next to the tank. I guess he had enough of being the center of attention and jumped out the hole where the filter enters the lid. I was gutted. he was so friendly. I didn't know that I was putting a load of males in with him at the time. it was only after he'd jumped out that I spent days figuring out who was who from the online order, I just assumed they were what I ordered, and at a glance looked correct. I had to go get some fish traps to isolate all the males from each other. its quite hard to tell them apart with the interbred colorful females, specially when they are young. ended up giving them all away to friends, and giving the importer abuse on the phone.

Sad story for sure. If it makes you feel better one of my previous bettas was murdered by my cat. Back when I kept bettas in those cheesy awful vases {before I knew better} My cat used to push it toward the edge of the table, finally I moved it to the top of a bookshelf thinking it would finally be safe. My cat climbed the shelf and knocked it off Wasn't pretty.

I haven't attempted to keep more then one betta together yet, but I think you may have had a problem anyway putting females with males at all. I think the general consensus is to have one male per tank, and then a sorority of females only in another.

I will have to dig out the bag the gravel came in. Its quite expensive - but its really fine black gravel. Thought it might have been a little sharp for the corys, but they seem to love it. They like the ship too, lol, funny watching them resting on different parts of it and flying over the deck and shooting down a hole.

As for the bettas - I read that it was ok to put a load of females in with one male, as long as there were 5 or more females and plenty of places to hide. I also read that you can have two males in the tank if there its a large tank with plenty of hiding spots - but I disagree with that.
