Hey everybody. I am new to the fish hobby and am looking forward to these forums as a resource and to learn from all of you. My husband and I are starting several freshwater tanks (mollies, tetras, shrimp, and oscars) and are getting a hang of tank maintenance. Live in Florida so the climate is really good for keeping fish.

cool
what's the stocking for each tank? or a tank for each species?
how big are the tanks?
photos?

welcome lol

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

I assume the Oscars are in their own tank?
Make sure you of a big (75-80%) water change and gravel clean the substrate in the Oscar tank every week. It helps reduce the chance of them developing diseases like hole in the head.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.

The mollies should be in a different tank to the tetras because they need hard water with a pH above 7.0 and a GH above 250ppm.
Most tetras come from water with a pH below 7.0 and a GH below 150ppm.

To find out what the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply, contact your water supply company via their website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).

Welcome to TFF and we're always curious of member's tanks. So, maybe some pictures the next time?
