Hey Guys,

Do you know how to decipher how many gallons is in a hexogonal tank??? I just want to know before I put any fish in it so I know how many to put in it!

Thanks a million!

Some manufacturers sell a standard size, measurements will be needed. If it's an odd size, fill it with a 5 gallon bucket, see how high in the tank it goes. If it takes 2 buckets to fill it 1/4 of the way, it's a 40 gallon, etc.

Thanks so much that seemed to work out to a 27 gallon, but it looks alot bigger is that common???

Excuse me, fishkiller_nomore, but are you converting the cubic inches to US gallons by dividing by 276? I believe the right number to divide by is 231. :look:

Here's what I have for finding the volume of a hex tank...
Find the area of your hexagon base first. (Area of a hexagon) = 1.5 * (square root of 3) * ( (length of one of the 6 sides in inches, if they are all the same) ^2)
Then take the (area of the hexagon) * (height of the tank in inches) = volume of the tank in cubic inches. To convert from cubic inches to US gallons divide by 231

Jeez, trying to comprehend the math makes my head hurt! Dumping in a bucket or 2 is a lot less stressful. :)

I knew that already I just tried them both anyways in case one was for hex and one was for square, I didnt know!

Thank you sooooooooooo much!
