So, at my place of work, we sell Betta Vases.

Don't lynch me. I am personally in charge of their care, they are in 1g vases, and i measured the dispacement of substrate and plant to be 1/2g's. They get fed Hikari Gold every day or every other day at most, their water is changed every other day. These fish are leading a good life in their small time in my care. They flare, bubble nest, jump when I feed them, and sometimes they flare so much they blow their tail (at which point, I notice the problem, beat myself for not noticing it sooner, and then remove the two from each other's company, and nurse the blasted tail back to health). I like bettas. I inform my customers that they need water changes, feeding, and warmth. Sometimes I lose sales becase people realize that these boys are too much work.

OK, that established....

I have fallen for one of mah boyz. :X He's in a $50 setup, with a vase, substrate, pothos/peacelilly, and a week's supply of food. I've taken to hiding him when people say they want to buy a betta vase. I really really want him. He's a silver CT with lavendar highlights, and he bubble nests like mad, jumps at my fingers when I feed him, and gets very excited when he sees me near.

I must not feed the system!
An LPS CT betta is not worth $50!
I think the betta setup is ugly!

But he's so cool.

Sukie! You're subjecting me to peer pressure! (*starts laying down the foundation for a "i just bought a totally over priced CT tread)

I wish I could switch him for a cheaper set up, but our shop only carries 2-3 bettas at a time. This is actually by my insistance... since I am the only one who cares for them, I refuse to allow them more, as I don't think that I have enough time during my work day to care for more than 4 bettas with the sort of care routine they require. The end result is, the fish we have in stock are all in the exact same set up.

I'm debating asking my boss if she'll let me go to our LPS and buy a fish to replace the silver boy we have in stock, as a straight trade.

We've had him on stock for almost 4 months, thanks to my careful manipulation of circumstance.....

Maybe you should just tell her that he's not selling (even though it's due to you! ) and ask if you can take him home for cheaper! Worth a shot, right?

I'm kind of hoping that I'll get him for Assistant's Week -- the holiday that used to be Secretary's Day, as I also work part time at an office. I've already pointed at him like... eighty-hundred times while my other boss is about and said, "That one is my favorite, isn't he cool? Look, he jumps and gets excited when I'm near, isn't he cool? He's silver, isn't he cool?"

i just got a CT today but they under charged me ALOT !!! lol go me.

i love him so much.

you should get him. you know you want to.

:good:

Wait, why are you asking to switch him with another betta from a LFS? Why not just do it?
"Um, I had to replace him because he wasn't feeling good. I took him home for special care. But don't worry, I'll make him right as rain...it just may take a while...like his entire life span..." :D

ps- or you could just be more insistant for assistant's day :fun:

If you really love him you'd get him, don't sentence him to death in that jar. :-( :grr:

Actually, he's the betta who suffered a blown tail due to excessive flaring at neighbors (I now card all of them), so part of me is trying to think of a way to make it sound like he needs at home care... my boss has allowed me to do that in the past.

I definately really want this guy. When we first got him, I thought he was gorgeous. My coworkers thought that his lavendar/grey/silver coloring was 'weird', but I thought he was cool. I wanted him right away, and I said to him, "If you ever jump at my finger or flare at me, I'll take you home."

He jumps now. I don't think I trained him to do so, I just fed him and one day, I went to go drop a pellet in and he jumped and snatched it out of the air before it hit the water. I love it when bettas do that. :D

lol synirr. snap. go for it, they are such great little characters, and its great to see an lfs thats has someone who is familiar with their care.

Well, it seems to me that if someone else bought him, you'd never forgive yourself and make yourself miserable. So even if he does end up costing you $50, you can justify it as 'anti-stress medicine' ;)
