Hermit crabs...

I kindof want a hermit crab. I dont want one with a painted shell, just because those are ugly.
Can someone explane what it eat, how to clean the habitat, ect.
Here's the habitat I'm considering.....

I'd say no to that, its a bit small . And they seem to prefer to be in groups.
