Hemmoraghic Septicemia aftermath

Jasper seems to have made significant improvement since I got him. At first he couldn't hardly get off the bottom of the tank, he swam in circles, he darted around madly, he didn't eat and he didn't even seem coherent - he was oblivious to the world around him.

With some Maracyn 2 followed up by a round of Tetracycline he's a changed fish. He swims normally (no more circles), eats like a hog, and is always looking for attention.

BUT.... the big old bruise (blood spot) under his eye is still there, and I can still see blood rings around his eyeballs.

Anyone have a history of this stuff? Anyone know if I should treat him again, or will the blood spot ever go away? How about the blood rings round the eye??

I haven't been able to find much good advice on it anywhere that I really trust.

Oh, and I also noticed some pinholes in his head - they've been there a while, not sure if they're just more apparent cuz he's got bloodspots under there or what... i'm REALLY hoping it's not hole in the head

I'm not sure if HITH affects fish other than cichlids...could be wrong, but I don't think it does.

If he's acting well, I'm not sure that you should treat, but...

The 'bruise', is this *behind* the eye, as in you see thru his eye to it?? I don't have a guess on it, just trying to understand. Not sure if I'm seeing your fish right, and am not familiar w/ bettas. The blood spot and the holes are not natural, right? the holes 'look' like little open wounds...?..that and the ring, I would imagine could still be an infection.

Is his fin still affected, seems to be in pic?

As for a suggestion for another med, you might try Bettamax by Aquatronics.

Well, the blood spot behind his eye becomes really noticeable when I do water changes - he gets REALLY stressed out and loses his color, so I can then see the spot - it looks like he's got a really big ol' black eye.

His top fin is really progressing along - it's kinda growing in, but i'm not sure that it will come back much more than it has now. It was pretty much half gone when I got him.

I don't know much about HITH. I have been keeping a very close eye on the little holes in his head, then I went home and examined my 3 other bettas and they all seem to have the same thing - I think Jasper's is just really more evident because of the blood spot behind them, and so then I can see red thru the holes.

He's acting perfectly normal and he's obviously much healthier, I just don't know if/when this whole blood spot thing should or if it will go away completely. I'm assuming it should?

Hmm - that article was very interesting.
The thing is that he is acting completely perfectly normal except for those few spots, so I think i'll not worry about it until I see anything else that worries me, or they start to get worse.
