We have a 55gal tank and everything I have seen about lighting is confusing. How long a strip will fit on this? Have been told 48" is wrong size. Is this right. After checking all glass site says length of tank is 48 3/4. Help please

Well why don't you measure your tank and get the biggest tube without overhanging the ends?

did that. was asking because i private messaged someone selling a 48" lighting unit and was told it would not fit my tank and if that was the right size i had an "odd" tank. reall tired from a lot of OT at work so wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something especially being new to SW after doing 3 FW tanks

48" bulbs are actually 46.5" long.

Do you have a hood, canopy, or what?

sorry. that's what i meant. need to get a hood and that's when the whole odd size tank thing started

You can fit 48" bulbs in a hood for a 4' 55 gal tank, trust me.

With some DIY skills, you can build your own canopy cheaper than you can buy one. This way, you can put doors on the front of it instead of having the top itself open, which is a pain.
