Help me please! There are tiny, visible white worm-like creatures floating around in my fish tank! There are some stincking on the glass and my fish are dying! :( :S

these worms sound like planaria (sp) if they are they will not be killing your fish :/

how long has your tank been set up, is it cycled, and do you have anyway of testing your water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? pH and temp would also be useful

Im not an expert, but luckily there are many people around here that are. however you will have to give some more info so you can be helped quickly and easily

lastly DONT PANIC! you have come to the right place

Your fish will probably enjoy eating the planaria so don't worry about those. Could be present because you feed your fish more than they can eat. Only feed as much that will be consumed within a couple of minutes.

Please explain why you think your fish are dying. What symptoms do you they have?

Can you also let us have your water stats , have you tested for Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates?

It sounds like your tank may be polluted. These little white worms are caused by over feeding your fish. I had the same problem. I cleaned the tank, fed less and the problem went away. My fish are doing fine.

I had worms in one of my tanks, but didn't take the risk of leaving them there because I've read that some types of Planarians are parasitic.

I took my tank apart and boiled everything. Threw away my plants, and started from scratch. Haven't seen any since.

Bit drastic I know, but I feel better being that safer. :D

All they do is eat leftover food from over-feeding, or food in an uncycled tank. They can't kill fish, actually, the fish like to eat them. DOn't feed your fish for a few days, do some small water changes, and hopefully they will clear up. If the tank is uncycled however, I doubt they'll leave :)

Thanks for the replies! It's a relief knowing that those worm-like things are safe. I will test the water to see if that has somthing to do with the cause for the dead fish.
