Hi Everyone,

My betta fish Delta, who I just got has a problem. This afternoon, when I went to check on him, I noticed there was alge in the tank. I was like oh my gosh! So, I cleaned out my tank thourghly, I scrubbed the sides for a half hour, and then I decided to take all the gravel out, so I could rinse it properly. Usually, I just rinse it out. So, anyway, at the bottem of my tank, I found these little black thingy's. They basiccly looked like his food( bettabites), exept they were black. -_- :/ I rinsed some water around in them, and the water turned brown. I may just not know, and the anser is really ovius, but um, what are those things doing in my tank and what are they?????
Here's some info on my tank.

Size: 2.5 gallions. Delta likes a small tank, I think he feels scared or somthing in a larger tank.
Temp. Usually about 80 degrees F. ( 27 degrees C.)
Food: BettaBites
Water Conditioner: Betta Basic
Stuff: a bunch of plants, a no fishing sighn, a heater, and a thermomater.

Please reply, guys. By the way, I'm Lia.

Thanks! :thanks:

Firstly, dont worry about algae, its not anything bad, if you dont like the look then u can clean the glass on your tank etc.

Secondly, this "black stuff" underneath the soil, its called poo  Something else which is not anything bad.

You shouldnt really clean you sand or gravel. and if you feel it needs a clean take some of the old fish water and clean it in that so its not super clean for the fish... Algea wont hurt your betta, but at the same time it doesnt look nice either, just get a sponge a wipe the inside of the glass. you can get special stuff that destroys algea for you (im not sure if its safe for bettas or not?)also the little black things could be dirt from the grave or your fishes waste, nothing to worry about either like stated above, if you have a filter that will clean it all up within time,

Good luck
Kieren

Oh, um Stupid me. I always thouht fish poo was white, because if I swirled around the water, there would be weird little white flakes.

those white little flakes, is probably un-eated flake food ?

white poo suggests a bacterial infection
stringy white mucousy poo indicates bacterial or parasitic infection.
white things when you stir up the water-do you have live plants? what sort of ornaments/substrate do you have in the tank.
if the fish is healthy (no signs of disease), active and eating, i wouldnt focus on disease, but more on substrate maintenance to keep it clean. a turkey baster does WONDERS for sucking up gunk from the substrate between waterchanges with a syphon. just an idea.
cheers

then yes i have agree there is something within the substrate or plants your using, or the fish isnt very well or have a under-line problem. keep a eye and post how he has been acting.
