:-( Bad News!
Hugo, my siamese fighter has accumilated 2 holes in his tail fin! Recently, his tank became damaged so i had to move him into a smaller round tank with no filter, light or heater. Now, his own tank has completely broke leaving a wet patch on my floor! Now he has benn stuck in this inadequate tank for about 5 days and i haven't been able to get him a new tank!My freinds cant house him and i am seriously worried! Now i am really worried and dont know what has made him get these holes. They are about less than a mm in size and have not increased in size, and there is no signs of fungus or fin rot!!!I am going to buy a new tank asap and i am glad that i did not introduce the new fish i wanted into the broken tank!

Iain, sorry to hear that :(

I'd give him a 30% - 50% water change (treated water)

Have you got any medications - if not I'd suggest Melafix, seems to be particulaly good at mending damaged fins

When feeding (not too much) make sure no food is left uneaten as this will quickly pollute the tank.

be aware that your new tank will have to go through a cycle ;)

let us know how he gets on

:)

If Hugo (love that name) isn't showing any signs of fin rot or fungus or anything else, you can just keep his water real clean ALL THE TIME--you don't absolutely need to use Melafix although it's a good antiseptic and helps speed fin mending. His fin should heal with time. Fins are fragile so they sometimes tear, etc. if he's banged it against anything (including the side of hte tank). Just keep his container real clean all the time--make sure he's warm enough since the temperature of the water in the smaller container will fluctuate a lot more than in the bigger one. And just keep checking him for fungus/fin rot, etc. which can suddenly invade if he's been under stress.
