Help!

The link isnt working.

What does it look like? Velvet is usually seen as a very light coating of tiny gold spots, like the fish has been dusted with glitter, sometimes slime can be seen around the gill openings.

I've yet to find a medication that kills velvet effectively, i've tried Protozin, Interpet and esha Exit but none seem to make any difference once a fish is infected though may help in controling the spread :/ Covering the tank completely to cut off all light helps a little as the free swimming spores are photosynthetic and water changes reduce their numbers as well.

Ooops copied wrong bit. Get rid of ftp bit infront of the adress and it will work..

i dont think its velvet then, the slime coating has turned milky and lumpy in appearance and is pealing off in places.

aghh, looked at the pics and thats nasty

That is velvet, the parasites burrow under the skin and cause it to peel away like that once the parasite has got itself established.

Big water change using warmed water, whack the temperature up to 28, add as much aeration as you can, choose a medication that deals with velvet, the choice is yours since i cant actually recomend one, fit a UV onto the filter and leave it on 24/7 and cover the tank with a thick sheet or blanket with the lights off permamently.

Then cross fingers and buy plane tickets for when Steve finds out.

Oh crap, really didn´t want yas to say that.

Hi all,

Paul has been a total star looking after my fish, this happens once in a while and in all honesty I dont think any of the fish would have survived without Paul offering to look after them, so my rays and RTG are still fine and that is the main concern for me

S**t happens and I couldnt ask for the fish to be in better hands currently

Steve

Thanks for the vote of confidence Steve.

Just finished there water change with all the hot water in the system, Added Esha Exit and Esha 2000, they have a 400 lpr airpump running and wacked the heaters up to 28 and the lights are off, I'll organise a proper cover later for them.

the Fire eel perker up with extra air almost instantly, maybe there's hope yet :)

thanks for the quick replies CFC

Well isnt it lucky that we managed to sort it out before you came along and made a pointless comment then
