Hey all, looks like I had my first leak last night and I wanted to get your oppinions on what I should do about it. It appears that my sump tank developed a leak just a little below its water line and drained about a gallon of water on to my floor. The main tank is an All Glass 45 tall (3x1x2') with standard stand and the sump is a plain old allglass 10g. The carpet around the stand is a little wet, but only about a 1/4" wide area circling the stand is actually wet. If I didnt hear my pump sounding different, I actually wouldnt even have known that there was a problem.

I've removed the sump (PITA), put the heater back uptop, and have a fan blowing on the bottom of the stand. The bottom of the stand itself is allready dry. Should I go through the monumental effort of breaking down the tank to get under the stand to dry every last inch of carpet? Will a gallon of SW on my floor cause it to start rotting and destroy the floor? The tank is on the second floor in my bedroom up against a load bearing wall and its 3 foot length is perpendicular to the main floor joists.

Thanks for your advice in dealing with a mercifully minor spill.

IMO a gollon aint gonna cause major problems

About 2 year ago, I spilt 40g  (just under half the capacity of my tank) on to my brand spanking new laminated flooring, It is amazing how much water a OR 6500 :hyper: can shift in the time it take to run out of the kitchen (& how far it propels water- this water jet could have put out a fire  ), I used my dehumidifier to dry up what all the towels, bedding (and anything else to hand) didnt pick up, no warping of the laminate & the tank hasnt crached into the basement yet (wooden floor under laminate) :good:

Thinking back now it was very funny, her indoors didnt think so

Do you have a dehumidifier in the house? Rapid drying shouldn't be a problem and I wouldn't worry about the stand. SH

Thanks for the replies guys, set my mind at ease. Water's mostly dried up now and I'm feeling a little better. Prolly will re-assemble the sump tommorrow after the silicone repair has had time to dry. Man was that scary when I woke up though...
