Help With Puppy Choice

ummmmm, which pug puppies on that page??

I don't know how the prices are in the UK, but in Australia, $800+ is a reasonable price to pay for a pup from a registered, non-puppy-mill breeder. (think this is about 250+ pounds). You would expect to pay up to double this for breeding/show quality pups (not necessary for a pet pup, only if you are a breeder/showie).

Make sure you get a pup from a breeder where both parents are available to be viewed, and both parents have been Penn hip and elbow scored.

Expect a happy, confident, laid back attitude from the breeder and both the puppy's parents.....don't listen to the breeder if they say:" oh, she is only growling to protect her pups", or "he's just defensive with strangers"....unless you want a vicious attack guard dog, you are better off keeping on looking until you find a pup where both parents are relaxed and friendly- yes, even with strangers around their pups! Just makes life easier in the long run.

best of luck with the new baby, keep us posted!!!

pedigrees who are kc registered should have been hip checked as well but our friends have one who have alot of respiratory problems due to the shape of their face ..

those ones are just so cheap i cant see how they are legit??

what kind of price would you expect to pay for a well bred pup? (i live in Aus, so couldn't estimate a fair price for UK).
I would expect respiratory probs with any breed with pug face shape, however there are better and worse variations. I wouldn't expect the breeder to give you a fair/straight answer on the dogs respiratory fitness, maybe you can get the breeders to run/play catch with/strenuously exercise the father of the litter so you can hear for yourself the level of wheezing/grunting he shows? (wouldn't expect them to be willing to run the mother, nice as it would be to hear both.)
Also, if you can, try and get the parents and/or pup vet checked.....if you are willing to pay a decent price for a good pup, this should be money well spent, and if the breeder is not willing, it tells you something about them!

some people may have litters and decide not to goudge, they may be looking more than the pups go to good homes, rather than make al ot of money. The two puppies we got lab/german sheperd, usually go for up to 600$ here, but we got ours from a family for 120$ some people just aren't looking for fast money

Hi

I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They cost me £600 each. But I know the breeder looks into the lines of the stud dog, both the fathers showed at crufts. And her bitches are heart & eye tested. She only breeds twice from her dogs.
This doesn’t mean they are perfect, anything can happen, but I made sure by choosing a good breeder that everything has been checked out.
