Help With Plecos Please

hi my friend has had a plecos for about a year, about 2and a half months ago it swelled up like it had eggs in it and last night some time it lost a few scales and left 3 like cuts on its side so we rang a fish shop and they told him that its what a plecos will do but iv never heard of anything like that before could anyone help me out if this is true or what we can do to help it as the cuts look really bad, when he got it he was told it was a male when it swelled up really big we just thought it was a female and has eggs in side her but i read that it will only stay like that for 5-6 weeks if it was eggs so really worried about it now so any help would be really nice

what other fish are in the tank with it?
how big is the plec?
there could be a number of factors as to why it has lost scales and have cuts or open wounds,
a picture would be your best bet, can you get a picture and get it on here?
also do you know what kind of plec it is? common plec or some other species?

i dont know what spec it is ill try and find out what one it is and try get a pic on here later ill go over there and try get a good one of it thanks for your reply
