I have an Amazon sword which has leaves that are starting to go brown around the edges and I dont know what to do

Should I trim them back ? Its my first time doing a planted tank.

I tried adding a pic on here using the 'click to attach files' option below, but it wont attach it for some reason ?

i think i know what you mean i have the same problem, i to dont know how to solve it but ive got a good feeling it has something to do with to much/ to little lighting...do you have an alge problem at all??

No algae problem
Sand substrate and using a fert from my LFS called Nutrafin Aquatic plant food that tells me to dose weekly
Am rather frustrated now ..

see my mature tank doesnt have a problem with its plants, it use to but since mature and the fact i kept triming away the dead bown leafs, it seems to have sorted itself out, so im taking a guess this also comes into play, a read over at the plants section might suffice some help, im going there ina min so if i find any more info i will be sure to post it up, dont trust everything i say mind! im pretty new to it myself and struggling with the same problem with anouther tank of mine, but like i said, only advice i can give for now is this,

trim the dead plants of,
keep doing your water changes

also, are you sure its not that "new tank" brown alge stuff?? if it is then you should be able to just rub it of?

I had the same problem with my swords untill i did a total overhall of the tank, i used a tetratec substrate and toped that off with sand and dosed weekly with liquid ferts and set my lighting on for 10 hours. Now the plants are all very healthy. Though ive set up a diy co2 a month ago which has helped my plants a great deal, id strongly advise a good substrate and co2 to anyone keeping plants.

neil.

I was told they feed a lot from the roots and noticed a real difference when adding some fertiliser tablets under the sand. Now I have it in sand with cat litter underneath, dosing ferts and liquid carbon daily. Seems to be doing OK :good:

Are the leaves going yellow and crispy? Or just brown, if it's the latter, half your lighting, it'd more than likely a lack CO2 problem, just half yor lighting and things should improve.
