hey.
so i got a 2l pop bottle, stuck the airline in the top n siliconed it. added about 100g of sugar n a teaspoon of yeast, then added arounbd 500ml of warm water.
its been 30 mins now and i havent seen any bubbles come out of the airline in the tank? :( did i do sumthing wrong or does it take a while?
cheers :good:

It takes a while! After changing one of my cannisters it can take 3-4 hours for bubble to start - changing the bottle mix well before lights on is a good idea, even better is to change it just after lights off.

well il tell you what i do and it works great. i use a 2 liter bottle, 1 cup of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of yeast and then fill the bottle 3/4 full of warm water. i get 1 bubble per second for 2 weeks with that mixture. and the bubbles will start about a minute after you install it.

how much roughly is a cup of sugar in grams?

edit: according to convertor online its equal to 16 tablespoons? or about 230g? would u say this is right?

Does this cause any tanks issues, like mess with the Ph? I am getting ready to need some C02 for my tank and want to do the DIY thing also.

.... be careful when converting from volumetic liquid measurements to dry powder weights!!!!

@Tex, yes it will 'mess' with pH.... perhaps...

adding co2 in any method will cause a lowering in ph this is because the co2 reacts and creates a mild acid which helps to lower ph, this is often seen as beneficial since most fishes, especially Amazonian species prefer and need a lower ph around 6.8
