Hi guys

I have this perfecto 30 gal tank, and i've noticed that when the fish are near the front of the tank, they aren't illuminated very well. And it's no wonder..

I don't have live plants in my tank, and probably won't because of the maintenance and parts involved in it. So i don't really need good wattage lights just something to light the tank up. I thought of adding a cold cathode light like everyone uses for their moonlight, but a white one...and hey why not add a moonlight while i'm at it.

Do you think a white cathode will work well?
would it be possible to connect it to the switch for my regular lights?
I think they are 18 W lights..here's a pic of what it says on the tube

i don't really know much about this lighting stuff

I was thinking I could put the cathode in the opening part of the hood..but i don't know what all electrical stuff is out in the open..so i was thinking i could get a piece of plexiglass or something (suggestions?) and either screw it into the lid, or silicon it on.

I'm planning on following the instructions in the cold cathode diy pinned topic.
here's the lid:

What do you guys think??
Thanks!

CCFLs are nowhere near as bright as a "real" tube... I would add more standard fluorescent tubes :good:

The hood seems sort of stupidly designed..i never looked into getting another lighting unit..but that would mean a new hood i think..plus the lighting...whcih would mean $$$$$..which i don't have much of

Would LED be better? i noticed some people mentioned that they sorta create directed light..which would kinda look stupid.
i'm not looking to do anything extreme..just improve the illumination of my tank a bit.
