I've bought a Juwel 60 for my son (honest), but I've got a problem - here's hoping someone can help.

I've fitted it all up and got it going, but I keep getting water 'seeping' under the hood at the front and
dripping down.

It looks like the pipe from the pump is pushing the water at the front a bit too hard so it occasionally
splashes up and gets under the lip of the hood.

I've read a bit in the pump manual that implies I might not need the pipe, and the pump will be fine
without it and that enough air will be absorbed for the fish through the surface of the water.

Help! The wife's not very happy (BIG understatement) that it keeps dripping so any advice would
be welcome.

Cheers,

Kes

no i have a juwel 60, is it the right angle pipe thing that comes up from the bottom? and if so try poiting it towards you abit more, right at the edge of the grill so if it does splash up it doesn't go down the back, its all i can think of with my tired mind :( i have never had that problem. Sorry for the lack of help

Hiya Caino, cheers for the reply.

I've got that right-angled pipe pointing towards the front of the tank, it looked like it was going to splash out the back when I pointed it towards
the back - ironic since that's what it's doing now at the front. I tried pointing it sideways, but for some reason it wouldn't work at all - weird huh?

Anyway, I've turned the heater off quickly, I'm going to pull the pipe out and see what happens. When the pipe's dry I might look at
sticking a bit of plastic/cut tube to it to redirect to flow sideways and see what happens.

Hopefully someone else can let me know if it'll be okay without the pipe, even for a day.

I just took the lid of mine and had a quick look, my shellies didnt like it to much because they thought they were getting fed, ahwell. Are you using the pump that was supplied with the tank? And does ur tube sit right at the front of the filter box?

Yes, I bought it from a local garden centre so it all came together (with the stand).

The pump is almost right at the front in the housing, with the right angled pipe in it and pointing forwards, over
the wall of the housing.

Cheers for looking by the way, I'd swear the little harlequins I've got in there know when I get home, since
I help my son feed them, so he won't overfeed them (he's only 5 and reckons the little flakes 'can't be enough').

Plonker alert!!!!

I don't know why my pump wouldn't push water out sideways when I first put it together (and I tried more than
once!) but I've just pulled the right angle pipe out, turned it through 90 degrees and the water's happily pumping out
right to left across the back of the tank. It looks much better now.

Thanks again for looking Caino, my Harlequins have just got to get used to the change in water flow direction now.

D'oh

Its great that you have you problem fixed now. Have you tryed running it without the pipe at all? I did this with my record 96, for may months, with no adverse effects. So long as your pump is mounted on its fitting ok, the flow is directed at the opposit wall of the tank, and the current has weakened sufficiently to not seap under the hood. HTH rabbut

Rabbut, if it hadn't worked that was what I was going to do next, but I like the sound of the splashing water (the wife's
not too keen, she keeps thinking we have a real water leak). With the pipe pushing the water along the back of the tank
it looks like there's a good movement of water that the fish are enjoying now.

I'll come back and look for some help on the next problem - algae (brown splodges on the tank & rocks) if it doesn't
slow down/recede in the next week or two :)

Cheers,

Kes

Hi Kes, I have exactly the same tank & set up as you. I have run mine with and without the pipe and prefer it with the pipe because of the sound of the water. You have to make sure that your filter basket is pushed down completely too as otherwise it starts to make a sucking like noise (which I think was probably air getting into the system) but now that it is pushed down it is running fine. Good little tank though! Still no fishy-people in mine because doing fishless cycling and it is taking forever! :S
