I hope he gets better soon! With everything you're doing, I'm sure he's on his way to improvement!

(Davis has developed fin rot as well, but I only just learned about the almond leaf from this thread. :X)

So sorry Vicki  His tail fin look awful,- but he looks very erect and alert in himself in the last photo. ???? You've been doing everything you can. I hope that the Almond leaf arrives soon and helps. Is Thai looking worse or just no better? I wish I could give you a miracle solution   xxx

he is still his usual lively self, swimming about, eating, flaring at the little snails he spots on the glass.
But his eyes are still bad and his fins seem no better.

He is still gettin his daily water changes, melafix to help his eyes and lots of love :( :(

I just need to do more, but dont no what

Myxazin is worth getting thats what cleared Polo up before he pasted, helped his eye and his fins

Some observations and suggestions:
It does appear to be fin rot and NOT tailbiting. Classic fin rot as the membranes are erodiing faster than the rays. If you can, lower tank tamp a degree C or two-will slow donw bacterial growth if thats the cause (stress from breeding prob. the ultimate cause and weakened immune system and bacteria began to take hold). Dips once a day in salt solution may also be helpful-1 teaspoon per gal up to 30 mins once a day. Easier than treating the tank and having to worry about redosing when you do waterchanges. Also agreed that melafix is pretty useless stuff. In fact ive had a betta that i was treating for a minor tear in his fin, otherwise very ehalthy and active. dosed his tank with melafix and he died. No other reason in my honest opinion/fishkeeping experience for his death other than the melafix. Becasue of that i do not recommend using it with bettas. Besides, it really is a tonic more than a med. Myxacin as mentioned above would be better if you are able to get some. I think this is one of the cases that does need meds.
keep changing that water. It is doing more good than you realize. Also feed many protein rich foods like bloodworm to help rebuild tissue and keep him strong and healthy. Just dont overfeed and cause tummy troubles or swimbladder issues. Garlic if you have any would help too with his immune system.
Best of luck! You really are trying hard for this guy. Glad hes otherwise acting normally. Let us know of ANY other symptoms that may be a sign of some other underlying cause (flicking or rubbing spitting out food etc).
all the best
cheers

Myxazin is what I used for my fin rot too and it worked a treat on my girl that looked 90% dead for over a week. She made a miraculous recovery and her missing ventral fins are growing back beautifully!

On a side note...if you've never dealt with fin rot before, it will often look worse before it gets better. The edges will tatter more as the dead fin sloughs off and new fin regrows. So don't panic if you see this once you start treatment.

thank you so much everyone.
i have ordered some myxazin off ebay (my local pet stores dont have anything like this). should be here early next week :(

For some reason I've never seen it in the shops. It's generally pretty good when yuo get it from e-bay. A word of warning it will turn the sealant on your tank blue and don't spill it as it will dye anything it touches blue. I accidentally dropped some on a towel last week (thank fully it's a towel I use for drying fish stuff so it's ok) but I'm glad I did as otherwise it would have been all over my parents dining room table!!!
