I've just noticed that an extra cherry barb has appeared in my tank, At a gues I'd say it's around 10mm long, not sure how long it takes to get to that size but im guessing atleast a few weeks. It seems to have managed by itself so far but do they require any special care or do i just need to keep an eye on it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Based on the estimated size can anyone advise roughly how old it might be?

I hadn't set the tank up to breed the fish, but accepted that they might (although my lfs said there was no chance), I have 2 males and 4 females (5 now). Ive read that the adults will eat the eggs, is this true and if so is this just a lucky one that survived or should I be expecting to find more in the near future?

Cheers

Marc

At that size it's probably only a couple of weeks old, but it's very hard to be exact. More may well pop up, but there's also a good chance it's the only survivor. The adults will eat both eggs and fry if they see them, so your baby must have been good at hiding!

You don't need to give it any extra care beyond trying to make sure it gets enough to eat and making regular water changes so it grows well.

Congratulations!
