Hi
I cant remember for the life of me what this is called and cant find it anywhere.
Its on its own skeleton which is white'ish. The polyps close at night

The first one is a kind of star polyp. The green bubbly thing is valonia bubble algae, needs' to be removed, and preferably outside the tank as they can burst and release hundreds of sppores which develop and take over tanks very quickly. Just twist them off, carefully so as not to burst them. Third one is a sponge i think!

Hi and thank you :good:

The rock that the bubble is on is only small but has 5 nice mushrooms on. Does this mean i will have to do it in water? If so, could i transfer into a container and do it there?

Thanks

The mushies will be fine out of water for a while so do it out of water. Try to make sure you don't burst the bubble's but if you do rinse the rock in some tank water in a container before putting it back into the tank :good:

Emerald crabs are always GREAT for eating bubble algae.

The last picture looks like a tunicate to me. My rock used to be covered in them. They're harmless filter feeders.

Thats good news, thank you for your help :good:

I will have a look at Emerald crabs

Be careful with Emerald crabs, Trod has one and wishes she never got it - has caused her loads of rocks falls it is getting rather large

Good luck with the bubble algae... It's a bear to deal with if it takes hold in your tank

I always see people complaining about emerald crabs but i've my fair share of them and never had any trouble (including the large ones). In fact besides turbos, they're my favorite cleaner upers

Just proves its the luck of the draw, as with most things, you have obviously been lucky, while, I have been very unlucky, my emerald crab has caused me so many problems, I wouldn't recommend one, 'just in case'

Thats what we are all here for so people can make an informed choice about what they put in their tanks :good:
