Help! Why Silvertip Tetra Would Attack A Guppy?

Can anyone please help?

I saw a guppy today in the local pet store which I really liked.
Although I have quite a few fish I thought a small guppy wouldn't make that much difference.

Got him home put him in the tank and noticed later that the Silvertip Tetra's I have were chasing him.
I am not sure but I think they have nipped him. I have put a photo below, can someone confirm
whether the marks on him are where he has been attacked. {I didnt really notice them before}

I have removed him and put him in an isolation tank I have cycled ready to keep any fry in I may get
or sick fish.

Hope someone can help soon, might have to take him back, that is if he doesnt die by tomorrow.

What should I do about the Tetra, I am afraid this might happen to any other fish I may get in the
future.

Tetras are fin-nippers by reputation. Some species are worse than others, but all tetras will do it to some extent and of course, some individuals will be worse about it than others -- each fish has its own personality. It can be minimized if the fish are in a large enough school that they are too busy with each other to bother other fish. But, the tip of a long fin can look an awful lot like food to a lot of fish, and just be too easy of a target to ignore.

I've had big problems with Silver tip's before now- they stressed out the other tank mates out to the point where I lost one Adolfi cory, so we took them back.
Dad didn't listen to me a couple of weeks ago about them, bought some, and ended up moving them to a different tank because of the same situation. They are now in with serpae, black widow and black neon tetra, which can all hold their ground against them a lot better.
Depending on the size of your tank and what else you've got in there, it might be an idea to re-home the silver tips? Or in future only buy other fish that could stand up to them?
