Can you please give your advise? I am coming back in to the hobby and cannot afford a brand new expensive set up for inverts so i thought i will buy a second hand one from ebay!! Could you tell me if i buy one and take it home how will the fish and inverts live as the tank is not set up. DO i have to transport some of the water? Please help!

Hi, I bought my set up second hand and I moved 99% of the water in a water container and large clear poly bags, I was able to get around 10 litres in the bags. You will need to keep as much of the original water as you can. It was easy enough, just put the substrate and water back in (enough to start the heater again), got the filter going again, put the lr in and then got the skimmer going and added the fish.
Good luck :)

You could trade the livestock in with you LFS that way it will give you plenty of time to get teh tank set up & aquanted with the system and in a when you are ready you can then add livestock

:D

since you want to do an invert tank, the only thing i would be worried about buying a 2nd hand tank off e-bay would be if the previous owner used copper to control something. iirc copper will stay in the tank even if it's thoroughly cleaned. you might wanna ask before you win it, hopefully they didn't use that stuff. Good luck

Also have a look on reefkeeping forums for people selling complete setups: IMO your likely to get a better system this way.
