Hello I got abit of a problem.... I have a tank thats measures 4ft in length, 1ft 1inch(?) in Height and 1ft in width but I cannot work out how much water it holds using the calculator provided on this site please help!

Also have I gotten it wrong buying the fish below from the girl who works in the fish section???

The tank originally belonged to my brother who lost interest after abit and gave it to me when I moved into my new flat, I used to look after his fish when I was a kid but now that I've had it - I can't remember owt! :dunno:
I filled up the tank without taking down how much I was putting in! I've had it up and running for about 9mths now but I originally bought 11 neon tetras to start off and they got white spot, obviously I treated it with stuff 9 of them died leaving me two survivors which have quite happily had the tank to themselves for the past 8mths and have gotten bigger. However after finally finding time to get more fish

2x Angelfish
1x Clown Loach
2x 3spot Gourami
2x swordtail
4x neon tetras

from a place called Pets at Home in Edinburgh, Scotland I've also discovered that some of them have whitespot too and that they're infecting the rest!!!! I forgot about the quarintine thing and I don't have another tank for it. Please advise as 3 of the newbies have already died - 1 angelfish, 1 swordtail and 1 tetra :rip:
I'm taking them back for a refund/replacement. Please anyone gimme some advice!!! :-(

Ok they have ick. go to a wal-mart or a fish store and get some ick med. fallow dection on the back of the box and ur fish might have a chance.

sounds like ur tank is around 40 - 45 gallons..

as for the choice of ud fish.... they all seem to be ok together....

tetras and angelfish may/may not be able to go together....it really depends on the sizes of each and their level of agression
(dont get really big angels and really small tetras)

gouramies....i have had only one gourami and it was a bad experience one too...mine was crazy and killed like 5 of the others in the tank...but from what i have read they are usually very peaceful fish

clown loaches are afun fish to watch but since they dont have scales, they tend to get sick more often...also dont use aquarium salts or medicines with these fish

9 months ur tank should be cycled....but it never hurts to get ur water tested....pH, ammonia, etc.

u want ur pH to be around 7.0 in a community tank

whitespot is an awful disease for neons...if u ever go to buy more fish...always inspect all of the fish in the tank, if some look unhealthy or have noticeable diseases such as ich or whitespot, do not buy fish from that tank

hope that helps!!! and good luck

What do you mean by ick? u mean whitespot? If so I have the stuff I just dunno how many drops to put in coz its been so long since the last time and also I can't work out the volume of my tank! ( I am really ####e at maths)

As for the size of the tank, assuming your tank is indeed 48x13x12, it is a 32.5g tank. This is a rarely propotioned tank though - I have yet to see one like this before...

whitespot is a disease only neon tetras get (maybe cardinals im not sure)

ich can contaminate any sort of fish...it looks like white fungus growing on the fins of fish

testing your water....u can buy one of those kits that test for like 5 different things anywhere.....buy one and just read through it...its fun

I really need the exact volume of water for my tank for this whitespot stuff coz I don't want to risk using the wrong dosage.
See my reply above... ;)

dont use medicines with the clown loaches in there....it will hurt them...maybe kill them

Go to a pet store nd have them help you. At least that is what i would do.

Other than the clown loache, your fish choices look okay to me. Two things about the clown loach. First, they prefer to be in groups of at least three. Second, if your tank is indeed about 33 gallons, it is far to small for clown loaches, even one of them. These fish get up to 14" long, so they need a larger tank. Good luck!
