Ok, so maybe a little drama in the title. I recently purchased 2 Discus. For the first 5-6 days, my Blue Diamond would eat brine shrimp pellets dropped to the floor and live brine shrimp, but the Red Diamond would not. I added the live shrimp in there to entice them into eating for it had been several days and they would not eat. The Blue Diamond went to town and ate everyone he saw. The Red Diamond seemed to get freaked by them and would swim away if one came near him. I next tried live black worms in a feeder cone and they both absolutely loved them. They will not eat frozen worms that i defrost and put into the cone (probably cause they do not move like the live ones) and will not eat anything but the live worms now. There is only 1 out of 8-10 pet/fish stores around me that sell black worms and they frequently run out. It is now going on another 5 days that the Red Diamond has not eaten because the store is out of them. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get them to eat food that is not alive? Or possibly a way to keep large amounts of black worms without them dieing (recently killed a whole bunch in a couple of days)? I would greatly appreciate it.

I followed directiond from a site online about how a person put 1 inch of peat in a 5 gallon tank, added 2-3 inches of aged tap or distilled water and fed a combination of cornmeal and flour. Also with slight aeration. I am now responsible for slaying a nice community of black worms.

Your fish should survived 10 days without food

try these site on blackworms

Link

and check your local yellow pages for more aquariums of ask them to reserved some for you. My uncle use to keep the worms in water with an airpump, but not sure what he fed them.

Are these adult DIscus that you purchase cause it's normal for adult discus to loose their appetite and not eat for several days..Are sure they are not sick, check their feces to see if they are pooping a white stringlike poop or if it's black, and if theyre getting dark, cause they might have internal parasites or Hexamina....

Thanks for the link. I have been trying to see what color their feces is but I never seem to be able to catch them "in the moment". As far as the dark colors, the Red Diamond is not dark and I believe as of today he may have gotten over his fear of the brine shrimp, I caught him eating a couple. I'm sure I am just being overly concerned. But I'm sure since some of you have gone through the trouble of posting and watching a forum about fish you probably feel protective of them. Thanks for your answers!
