I have a syno catfish that I have had for probably close to two years now in a 55 gallon tank. Now all of a sudden he has been swimming upside down near the top of the tank for the past two days. He usually hangs out on the bottom in coral. He doesnt look sick and has no weird spots or anything. He hardly eating as well. Any suggestions would help. Ive had this tank for 3 years without any problems. I have two 60 gallon filters and a bubbler in it.

Which syno species?
How long excluding tail fin?

Some synos do spend some or even most of the time upside down, not just the social Synodontis nigriventris. For example, my ~18cm SL Synodontis budgetti will often cruise the upper water flipped over.

However, being in the upper water can be a sign of distress for other synos, for instance decorus or brichardi (where this could be a sign of poor oxygenation and/or a gill infection like Ich)

He has always swam upside down every now and then but never constantly like this. I dont see any ich on him or any other fish. the catfish is in a 55 gallon tank two 60 gallon filters and a bubbler in it so there should be plenty of oxygen. Im not sure exactly what kind of syno it is. Im having trouble attaching a picture. Hes black with a tall top fin

Sounds like syno ereruptus or however you say that lol feather fin syno, you can attach a photo through photobucket, I think there may be other problems, doesn't sound normal for that syno species, what's your water parameters and other tank mates.
