Yesterday, I just moved 5 new Rummy Nose from the QT to my 75 gallon tank where there were already 5 healthy Rummy Nose. There are Clown & Yoyo loaches in the tank as well as a host of other healthy fish - danios, red phantom tetras, etc. Today, one of the Rummies has a tattered tail fin and the base of his tail & back 1/4inch of his body is white. The rest of his body is normal color and his nose is even red. He is not schooling with the others but hanging out in a corner. The tank is well established and all water parameters are good with very low nitrates. It doesn't really look like pictures of fin rot and this happened overnight. I am wondering if one of the loaches ripped his tail up? Do they do that? They are constantly pestering all the fish in the tank. Why is his back end white? Is it some other disease that anyone has seen before? I do not have much luck with Rummy Nose. Seem to be very sensitive fish. When one stops schooling and hangs in the corner, it is usually dead within 24 hours. Anything I can do? :-(

Well, it MUST be fin rot as his whole tail is gone. He just has a stump, now. I can't believe this happened in less than a day unless someone did nibble his tail off. I moved him back to the QT tank except there are two little clown plecos in there and I hope they don't bother him. They are not ready to be moved yet. I guess I need more than one QT.

I added a Jungle Fungus Clear tab to the QT tank last night. That's all I had on hand. He is still alive and swimming around this morning with just a stump for a tail. I am surprised he is still alive. What are his chances? Should I just put him put of his misery? All the other fish in the 75gal look ok still, tho I am worried about them getting something. I was keeping the tanks at 80deg for the Rummy Nose. Would it be better to lower the temp to discourage bacteria? I read that 80deg was also good for discouraging ich which I had a couple of months ago.

You could slowly take your reg tank to 77 -78 degrees. And son't be too worried about the tailless one - I've had a guppy or two that lost everything and bounced right back with nothing but real clean water.

The poor rummy didn't make it. He was twirling all around the tank when I got home from work. I had to put him to sleep. :rip: I am even more worried about the 75 gal now as I see that one of the clown loaches has a ripped fin with whitish edge. Also one of the rummy nose has one white spot on his fluke. I don't know which to treat first. It is technically my boyfriends tank and he doesn't want to move anybody to the QT plus I don't know how safe it is in there anyway with the recent casualty. I put some Melafix in the tank to hopefully take care of any fin rot and I will keep in eye on the ich.
