Just went out to feed my pond fish and the pond was holding about 2” of water. Fish laying on their side, gills still wet. Appears the filter tank has split. Will it be safe to place the fish in my bath tub for tonight? Largest is almost a foot long. There are 4 altogether. Right now they are in a 15G tote.

That was my fear too. It’s the guest bath but we do bathe our dogs in it.

I guess I can move my 2 females into my 45G which houses 2 juveniles for the night and put the larger fish in my 75G. Not perfect but better than 15G.

Glad your fish are ok. Sounds like a plan...are you going to repair the filter housing or get a new one? Must be pretty large ( and expensive). Good luck

Especially leery of dog shampoo soap residue. At least if it has flea stuff in it.

Your current plan of putting them in existing tanks for the night should work better.

I have to praise my wonderful husband. He’s a fish lover but won’t admit it. He actually drove to Home Depot and Lowe’s and found a pump tonight (only one left). He was able to replace the filter. Fish are now back at home in their pond. Whew! And we do this hobby because...

I imagine a filter for a pond would be quite expensive...a lot more than an HOB
Is it similar to a pool filter for an inground pool?
What kind of media does a pond filter use? Is it sand or diatomaceous earth?
How many gallons in your pond?

My pond is just a garden pond of 150G. The filter is only about a $100 and has large bio balls, round course filter media and fine sponge pad. Both are about 2 1/2” thick.
