Could someone please help me identify my Plec... Optimus Prime?

I Do not think I have ever posted before!

I've been a member for years and i've never had a question up until now. All my queries have also been other peoples.

I've kept fish for over 15 years but did not actually have a clue until I discovered fishforums, this site has revolutionised the way I keep fish.

Thanks

Wow hes a beauty,
Appears to be a Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus

i wouldt think gibbi dorsal fin maybe but head shape looks wrong and doesnt look to have the same sail like caudal fin. but then im often wrong

edit looking again maybe the caudal fin could just be "folded" like mine used to do sometimes

yeh i have to agree with nelly :), dorsal fin looks to large to be a common and the spots dont seem gold or striking enough to be L001... so from that leaves a sailfin/gibbi as nelly says :)

Commons and gibbi's im not the best on tbh lol :p

Edited just to say from the 4th pic it could well be a L001, seems to show colour of marks that little bit better

try getting a closer pic if possible :)

Great...thanks for the feedback! :good:

I had a look at both gibbi's and L001's online, but I just cant decide.

Going to try to get some better pictures this afternoon.

He's a great fish, I'd love to keep him but don't know if my 215l is big enough?

Just now In there i've got:

3 Giant Danios
1 Blue Gorami (rescued)
1 Kribensis
2 or 3 Kuhli Loaches
1 Optimus Prime

I would like to remove all fish except Optimus Prime then get 1 Blue Acara and a shoal of Columbian Blue Tetras?

I realise I may have to post this question in another forum.

Either way weather its a gibbi or L001 it will outgrow a 215l tank both reaching a possible 18 inches maybe alittle more on the gibbi.

very nce plec either way :)

Thanks jenclibee.

I'm going to have to rehome him then :(

Nevermind, he'll be happier in roomier conditions.

Still gonna try for those better pics tho

:good:

this fish isn't an L001 or a gibby. the eyes just dont look like the eyes those fish have.
i'd personally say its just a nicely coloured common pleco.
go through all the plecos on that planet catfish website though if you're still keen :good:

but yea, either way, its a monster fish :/ sorry mate!

pink.

There is really no such thing as a common pleco as this term is given to about 5 different species throughout the world, most of which are Pterygoplichthys species which include the gibbiceps, L001 and this pleco, (whatever it may be)

It's a L001

average 8-12 inches
Related to the gibby which is why most people are not sure.

all these are of my big gibby and it looks more like yours than a sailfin or a gold spot pleco (L001)
