:-( I have been keeping an eye on my red female betta lately cause shes been seeming a bit under the weather. Well today I looked at her and one eye was a little bigger than the other and i was like O crap what is that?! But I had to run to school as I had a final exam this morning. :/ So I got home at 2pm-ish (I had left at noon) and got to work studying yadda yadda yadda and when I looked at her around 6-7pm ish and the eye has this huge bulging bulbus bubble over it! :-( What is it? I have some pics I'll put on the aquarium pics forum if anyone wants to look. Is this contageous???? What do I treat her with? I dont wanna lose my red betta!!! Shes my fave!!!!!!!!!! :-( :-( :-( :-( Please Help!!!!!

C4F,

I tried to PM you, but I keep getting an error message so I'll post here.

You could try a short salt bath and see if that helps.

Take a gallon of tank water and place it in a bucket (used for fish only). Place a tablespoon of salt (non iodized table salt, kosher or epsoms will do) in the water and stir it well until it all dissolves.

Place the betta in it for up to a half hour monitoring it for signs of stress. If any stress is noted pull the betta out immediately.

If no stress, after the half hour place the betta back in the main tank and watch for any signs of improvement.

let us know how it goes.

the illness sounds like popeye for future reference. an infection due to the eye being scratched and bacteria getting in. if left untreated it could result in the loss of the eye and/or the fish. had a convict that got popeye the day i got it. she ended up losing the eye anyways, even with immediate treatment. was fine though. kinda funny though, if you were looking at the fry with her blind side facing you she did not know you were there and when she turned slightly and got a glimpse, i swear she used to jump!

Do you have a problem w/ algae?
Think I read in ur post in 'pictures' forum, u didn't think it was pop-eye, which was my first thought. The second was gas bubble disease. Not sure from the pic's...is it a clear bubble coming out next to the eye?
I only really understood the very last bit of this article. I've wondered about oversaturation in the past, but never really understood it. :S
Here's another small bit of info.
