hey guys

I woke up this morning to hardly any output on my filter - it wasn't moving the water at all. I quickly put my bubble stone in as the fish wern't looking very well and started taking the filter to bits. It's a Juwel Rekord filter only 5 months old.

First I took the sponges out - no blockage there. I then put my syphon into the slot were the sponges go and pushed it right down to the bottom and moved it around - nothing came out but water so no blockage there.

Then I took the nozzle off the filter box - clean and no blockage.

Then I took the actual filter out and put it in the bucket of water that I'd just syphoned off and plugged it back in - no problem - the flow was great.

So I set to putting it all back together and topping the tank back up. I switched the filter back on and the flow is back to normal

What heck is wrong?

It keeps doing this and I don't understand. Can anyone help as this is going to end up costing me fish I think.

I'm on a really tight budget right now (as with the rest of the country!) and a new filter isn't really affordable. I could borrow from my Dad if really neccesary but I'd prefer not to.

HELP!!! :S

Did you try cleaning the impeller magnet and using something like a cotton bud to clean inside the impeller cavity in the pump? It always surprises me how much difference this makes on my Juwel pumps, plus the one inside my Fluval U4.

no, that's probably the only thing I didn't do. I did try to work out if the filter would come apart so I could check the impeller but it looked sealed and I didn't want to force it.

Thinking about it now it probably is a problem with the impeller - I'll take it to bits again and see if I can get a cotton bud inside.

Thanks :)

I've now been on the Juwel website and it shows you on there how to take the filter apart and get the impeller out.

I've followed the instructions and it was well gunked up inside. The impeller was covered in a thick slime as was it's housing.

It's all had a good clean with a cotton bud as you suggested NObody Of The Goat and it's working really well again :D

I've now put my bubble stone in the middle at the back of the tank and created a mini bubble wall. I may leave it there as it's kinda fun and gives more plant movement - the fish seem to like it too.

It'll probably be something that only runs during the day though as the air pump is so noisy.
