I'm new to fishkeeping and have a problem with platy's dying!
I've now had two die and have a third sickly one. They have frayed fins, one has a frayed fin and a bit of an ulceration and a long pink poo type thing trailing behind it. So far only the platy's have been infected but worried about my angel fish and neon tetras catching it too. The aquarium was set up in January and my water tests are reading ok.

Any help as to diagnosis/treatment gratefully appreciated.

How big is the tank? What are the water parameters? What other fish are in there? It sounds like fin rot but we will need abit more info first.

TANK SIZE IS 36" X 12" X 12"

FISH:
2 PLATY'S (WAS 4)
11 NEON TETRAS
3 CLOWN LOACH
1 CATFISH
3 ANGELS

WATER TEST RESULTS: DON'T HAVE THEM WITH ME BUT THEY WERE GOOD
- NO AMMONIA AND NO NITRITE/LITTLE NITRATE

1/3 WATER CHANGE DONE EVERY TWO WEEKS, FILTER APPEARS TO BE WORKING.

HOPE THIS IS ENOUGH.

Ok, have you recently introduced any new fish?

Week 1 - Neon Tetras
Week4 - Clown Loaches, Platys and Catfish
Week 6 (2 WEEKS AGO) - Angels

I ALSO GAVE THEM THERE FIRST FEED OF LIVE FOOD, COULD THIS BE A PROBLEM?

THANKS

Well the live food or newly introduced fish could have brought the fin rot in. Do a 25% water change and go to the lfs and ask for a stress coat to add to the new water and a fin rot treatment. This will help build up the fishes immune system so it can fight the disease better, the medication will also aid this fight.

Good Luck
