I hope someone can help me. 2 nights ago, my betta was perfect. I made a comment to my husband about how beautiful and perfect all his fins are. Then last night almost over night I noticed his fins look like they are being eaten away, he has a big trangle in his tail and they look shredded and ragged. When I woke up this morning it was much worst and has spreaded to his other fins. Whatever it is it's going superfast!!! I dont see any fungus or anything, but I did notice some white stringy things(looks like threads but not worms, but who knows) on the glass and by the filter. He is by himself, and ammonia 0, nitrites 0 and nitrates 30. I have Melafix, coppersafe and Quickcure. What should I do? Thanks Leah
Any advice asap would be appreciated since its happening soooooo fast!! :(

I'm no expert, but sounds a bit like fin rot...either that or he has torn them somewhere...do you have plastic plants or anywhere that he could tear them on...?

I found that a good product to help heal torn fins was "stress coat" which seemed to clear up the problem on my swordtail fairly rapidly...

someone else may be able to advise you on the cause better than I can, but I would suggest getting some stress coat to help him heal his fins.

sorry for your problems, is horrible when fish get ill isn't it! :(

Thank you for your reply. I do have a plastic plant in there but He's never had a problem with it before. I know I'm so sad, he was so perfect 2 days ago, I was looking at him thinking how beautiful all his perfect fins were, Now he's a mess :-(
The only thing I think of is that I moved him to a different spot in my house, maybe he's stressed and that brought on the rot? If that's what it is. Thanks!! hopefully someone else will give me an idea. I may just add melafix and salt in the meantime. :(

My betta has been dealing with fin rot too--Melafix has helped to keep it at bay, but it never got rid of it. I found that BettaFix has worked pretty well with it--faster than Melafix at any rate--however Koume went and tore off all of that nice new fin growth! So, I've started him on a very little bit of Tetracycline--hopefully the tough stuff will make his fins whole faster.

The same thing happened to me, my beautiful long finned blue betta had two holes in his fins. I did water changes and shaped up on my upkeep of the water quality, and he is fine, in about a week!
