I Have a recently set up a 3ft Tropical Aquarium with 8 fish (I had 8 fish anyway). I have 3 Guppy 1 Black Tetra 1 Blue Corodorys Catfish A shrimp and i had a Glowlight and a Swordtail.

The Glowlight and a Swordtail have suddenly died. Their symptoms were that they stopped eating, became sluggish, hung at the bottom of the tank and they had heavy and quick Gill movements. They also, when this went on for a while began slightly tipping head first while flotting near the bottom of the tank.

The tank is about two weeks old, and the fish were introduced together. The chemicals that i have been using are Flora Boost Plant food (Nitrate free, for the live plants) King British Safe Water 1 + 2 (dechlorinator and Natural bacteria that digests fish waste, uneaten food & Plant debris).

This happens suddenly and within 8 hours the fish are dead. There are no physical signs of disease. The water PH is 7.

The fish all came from the same aquatics shop.

I Do a 10% change every week and i am using a tricklebed filter. :byebye:

Please can someone help me before i loose anymore fish

first of all the most important thing right now is for me to know when you put the fish in
did you cycle the tank first?
or did you fill it with water, treat it, and put fish in it all at once?

i need to know

1) nitrate?
2) nitrite?
3) ammonia?

if you do not have the test kits then bring a water sample to your local fish store
they will test it for you

4) where the gills swollen or missing? where there any bumps or bugs on the fish?

the sooner your answers come, the sooner we can help you save your fish!

Hi

The Nitrate, Nitrite and Ammonia levels are at 0

No Physical damage or loss of gills etc on the fish (thir colour didnt even fade)

I cycled the tank for 7 Days.

Thanks

any bullying whatsoever in the tank that you know of?
the other fish don't have to even cause any damage
stress from being chased alone can cause illness in fish
although it usually doesn't result in such quick death
hmmmm....
thats a thinker

so all water perimiters are fine,
you used water conditioner,
do you have a heater?
if so what is the heat at?
and where is the tank located?
on a stand, dresser, entertainment center?

I was going to say that your pH was really low, because a similar thing happened to me once--back in the "dark ages" of my tank when I didn't know what I was doing. But you've only had it for two weeks, so that can't be it...

Do the other fish look reasonably healthy, or are they also showing the same behavior?

Hi

There isnt much bullying in the tank, The shrimp is a bit skitish thats all.

What i have discovered however is that the tropical starter kit i bought from the shop has a very rubish air pump. I'm beginning to think that its the Oxygen level in the tank. I think this because my Black tetra Started going the same way, i put in some more Safe water (Biological micriirganisms) and mixed it in with the tank water (i had to oxidate the water by using one of those dripper things in order to make the microorganisms work) Anyway, about 10 minutes later the Black tetra had righted himself and was swimming, good as new.

This morning he's still fine.

Ive just ordered a new water pump. the problem is ive got to keep the water oxygenated enought for the next three days. ( I live in the middle of nowhere)

Does anybody have any ideas + thanks for your help :look:
