Last night, I had to move Dusk, my sunburst platy, out of the 10 gallon tank. My other platy was harassing him majorly. I went and bought a 5 gallon tank. Nice plants. It has a heater and filter, light, bubbler. Everything a fish could possibly need. Last night he was very active. He ate. Have my betta, Flash, in there with him. They get along great. They leave each other alone. I put 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt in there to deal with some bloat my betta had.

This morning, I notice a little rip in his fin and a bite wound on his head (where the other platy kept pecking at). I'm assuming this happened in the 10 gallon tank. Dusk refused his meal. Flash ate. I did a 30 percent water change. I put another teaspoon of aquarium salt in there (not for Flash, but for Dusk this time). I went and got some MelaFix. Gave the tank a dose. Unthawed some tubifex worms (which the fish normally go crazy for). Flash ate. Dusk did not. Tried some daphnia. Still, a no go.

I am worried about him now. Could it be stress? How long can Dusk refuse food before he is in serious trouble? He does not get flake or pellet. All of my fish are on a varied frozen food diet.

Help!

Keep an eye on your chemistry Beth. You are all set for equipment but are now dealing with an uncycled 5 gallon. That means that you will be dealing with a fish-in cycling situation. I have a link in my signature area that will get you to a thread on fish-in cycling.

Dusk passed away a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, I think I separated the two platties a bit too late. A day after he passed away, I got the molly a second girl friend and the remaining platy two girlfriends. Much better situation.
