unsure.gif Our male betta had a nice nest built then it popped during mating ( wenesday at 2pm) now they are on the floor of tank n some ar e on the glass bowl top are they still safe with out the nest? the dad is still i there watching them all i can see are white eggs no hatchlings yet we keep the temp up to 80 i to 85..

then our other male betta pretty boy has been with us for 2 weeks now and has mulitple partners but hasnt made a effort at all to make a nest.. hes more interested in the bubbles on the filtration tube..he thinks they are his bubbles... how can we get him to make a nest or is he just unfit to mate...at this time we have 4 females and he stlil hasnt made nest even when we placed on in a divider by him for a week he is just interested in flaring for her or chasing her when we let her out...

For the first male:

If the eggs are resting on the bottom and the male is not cleaning them, they stand a very small chance of ever hatching. Do not mess with the temperature---80-82 is the ideal range, and any higher with make them hatch before they are ready, and much lower they may not hatch at all. If the dad is NOT tending to them, then the best thing you can do is lower the water level to a couple of inches and add Methylene Blue to prevent fungus. Your hatch rate will probably be extremely low, but taking these measures may lead to actually having some fry survive.

For the second male:

If he's only been with you two weeks, then he's probably still settling in. Try turning off any current that may be in his tank (especially if you plan on using it for spawning), and see if he produces a nest. Feed him high-protein live or frozen foods to help get him in the mood. Just because he hasn't nested yet doesn't mean he's unfit to breed.
