There is probally some standard amount of gallons for a 6 foot tank but some people don't know. How many gallons is it? Eheims are good canister filters, again depends what size tank you have for heaters but it really doesn't matter. Unless you are going to get some fish that can do some damage than titanium heaters would be best vs glass.

If you live in the USA, then http://www.marinedepot.com, http://www.bigalsonline.com (Also canada I belive), http://www.petsolutions.com. My personal favorite is marinedepot.com I have never had a problem with them.

Lets see what else... So many things I'm sure someone who knows more can help you out.

I am running Fluval cannister filters and Hydor inline heaters on my 75 gallon and love them. The inline heaters are a little more expensive but I figured if I was going to set up a 75 gallon tank, I was going to do it right. I would definitely buy everything online as you can get most filters online for about half what you will have to pay in the stores. My Fluval 304s for instance were $139.99 at Petsmart (cheapest place locally) and I bought them for $75.00 plus shipping at petsolutions.com. I almost got 2 for the price of one.

Do you know about cycling the tank? If not, you need to read up; see pinned articles above under FAQ.
If you are just starting out, I think another piece of advice most people would want to give is, never buy a fish unless you have researched it and know you have the right conditions for it. Lots of information in the pinned links above, lots more to be had from the members of the forum. They did wonders for me!
Good luck and enjoy yourself!
