hi,i've been keeping tropical now for a few years but have been losing interest over the last year or so.i currentl own a jewel rio 240 tank with an eheim pro 11 2028 external filer.i would love to keep marines but have never been in a position to do so until now.could any of the more experienced marine keepers help me out with what i would need to turn my current tank and filer(if possible) in to a marine tank, stocking levels etc

im not sure if i would keep live rock,or just a sand substrate.im not sure on which fish/other invertabrates i would keep either.

this isnt a time wasting question.as soon as i know whats what, then i will be setting up a marine tank.i'm reading all i can at the moment but would really like your advice

thanks in advance mark

:hi: jump on in, it's great on the salty side with a bit of patience and lots of research you will have a great tank.

You have a really nice sized tank to start off with :good:

You first need to decide what you want your tank to look like:

A full reef with corals, what sort of corals, lps, sofites, sps
a tank with live rock but no coral
a tank with fish only, no live rock

Take some time to look at peoples journels so that you can decide the look you like, then we can go from there :good:

there are a few things you can start to collect already though:
Refractometer
test kits- for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph (just a few to get on with)
a note pad and pen, to write down stocking/shopping lists etc

thanks in advance mark

ok ill start by looking into protein skimmers even tho they arnt essential they arr highly nessicary IMO and keeps the water squeky clean lol. also u need to think if u want a sump or just hang on the back? either way for your sized tank id look at the tmc v2 400 and the deltec mce 300
