i think my platy has fin and tail rot....im a little unsure...cuz the male is always chasing her also....but it seems to be a slow steady disappearance on the bottom corner of her tail....

SO...what med do you reccommend....im thinking of maracyn2....

im looking for something effective but also versatile/multipurpose that i can use for other diseases if necesssary in the future....

also should i treat whole tank or just her?....cuz they are all very playful and always rubbing up against each other.....

please advise.

thanks

i also have 0.25ppm ammonia...that wouldnt cause ammina burn would it?

so whats meds are good without destraying cycling bacteria?

In the past I've used melafix and it did stop fin rot, but I found it only worked at the initial stages. With serious fin rot, ie nearly down to the body, melafix didn't work for me. In desparation I turned to Esha 2000 and it did the trick.

no level of ammonia in a tank is 'good' for fish it should be 0, do a small water change to try & get rid of the ammonia as it will irritate your fish esp if it already has fin rot or damaged fins. where are you???we unfortunately cant get stuff like maracyn here in the uk but we used interpets finrot & fungus med which works v well but you must increase oxygenation in your tank if you use it (turn up your air pump/bubble thing) and also be aware that some fish are v sensitive to medications (loaches for example).
ive always found melafix v good for minor cases of fungus, damaged fins, tails etc so its a good one to always have around & a good one to start with.
good luck
