Hi

Sorry for the newbieness...
But I have a small aquarium and added 2 silver Mollies. I was told to start very slowly and to add a medium or two small fish every month or so. This was to keep the aquarium toxic levels down etc...
But My Mollies just gave birth to approx 7 babies...or maybe more.
What should I do....Will it polute the tank and harm them all??

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Best wishes

Chris

They won't make much difference to the Ammonia levels and other pollutants. You might find that the parents may eat some of the babies.

Depends if you want a tank full of mollies only :)

If you're planning on having different types of fish in there i would try and give some of the fry to your LFS and maybe try and split the breeding pair, just get same sex mollies so it doesn't happen again.

Thanks everyone.
New to this but would like to learn lots more.
This looks like a fab place to answer all my questions :)
I do want to keep different fish as well so I may give some to my local shop.
At what age should I attempt to move them?
Also, I have noticed that there a quite a few dead fry in the filter...should I change this or will the bacteria deal with them?

Thanks for your help.

Just monitor you ammonia levels. When that is nill monitor the Nitrite levels. When both a nil you are safe to add more fish. It may then rise again slightly after adding more fish. When it drops again you can add more fish. As long as them two are nil you'll be laughing. Water changes dilute both but never change more than 50% at one time.

When it comes to fish go by the motto
'If it aint broke, don't fix it' ;)
