So, I was sitting on my desk next to my betta tank, when I saw my betta rub up against one of his ornaments. He did it twice in quick succession, and hasn't done since.
I don't see any white spots on him, so it's not ich. He already has a little gold on him, so it's kind of hard to tell if he has velvet, but I don't think he does. The only thing I can think of that would cause this is that, since it has been quite hot where I live, the temperature in the tank is pretty much a constant 82 degrees, except at night. Would that cause the flashing?
I have some aquarium salt, would it help to put a little in the tank?
He is eating fine and is swimming around normally. I just did a water change three days ago, so his water should be fine.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

What’s are your exact water parameters? Will you please upload a photo of the suspected velvet spot?

Shine a flashlight on him and see if theres more gold than usual

His light is off for the day, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if he has more gold than usual. I'll post a picture then too. I really hope he doesn't have velvet! Could the heat in his aquarium cause the flashing too though?

Shine a flashlight on him now, I'm the dark will be better than if the light is on.

It could be but not likely.

Okay, so I shone the light on him and I still can't tell. He definitely has some shimmery gold, but he has always had gold so I don't know if it's velvet or if it's just his coloring. Is there something I should do as a precaution in case he does have velvet?

Raise the temp for 86 for 2 weeks and it will kill it if it is velvet

Okay, but since the water is already 82 degrees, wouldn't that mean that it couldn't be velvet?

No velvet can live in 82 degrees. In that temp they actually reproduce faster

Oh, okay. I'll raise the temp. Should I also add some salt or is that unnecessary?

Not needed probably

Alright, I'll raise the temp and hopefully he'll feel better soon. I don't think it's too bad yet since he isn't flashing very often. I'll update you when he gets better. Thank you for your help!

Just thought I'd give a quick update. It has been two weeks now, and most of the gold he had on him is gone, except for where his natural color is. He is no longer flashing, and he built a bubble nest today! Thanks again for your help!
