I have 3 balloon mollies and 1 regular black molly; one of the ballon mollies is a male while the rest of them are females. The balloon mollies have these red thread-like things protruding out of their anus. After doing some research online, the verdict seems to be cammulanus (sp?) worms, or nematodes. I've called different fish stores, but no one seems to know what the parasite may be.

Right now I'm treating them with Aquatronics Pipzine (as suggested by a couple of websites). After the first dose, however, my male molly is now bellied-up and at the bottom of the tank. He is still breathing, but too weak to swim around efficiently. Is he kicking the can? Another balloon molly is acting strange as well; she's always hiding in the rock that we have for the fishes, and I haven't seen her eat anything.

Can someone confirm my problem(s)?

Additionally, one of the mollies gave birth in the tank; they're in their own little tank, but can they be affected with the parasite? If so, when can I treat them?

PLEASE HELP! :(

I sounds like it might be worms. It can be bassed on to the fry. Make sure you add salt to the mollies tank. I always say you should add Salt first, work on those treatments for a few days, and if it gets worse medicate with chemicals. extra Chemicals make the fish stressed. salt is essintial to mollies. If they are sick you should add 1 tbs per 5 gallons.

ohh, yeah, your male might have something wrong with his swim bladder. Try putting a shelled pea in there. It normally clears it up. Good luck. Make sure you don't medicate too much, and keep up with the water changes. Some chemicals tell you to remove the carbon in the filter. carbon sucks up the medicine so that it doesn't get to the fish in time.
